Product One - Magazine
For my magazine covers I am going to follow the conventions and codes of a real-life magazine including a block mast head with bright colours so that is the most noticeable thing on the product. Another media convention I will follow will be the close-up of the main model on the right-hand side as it catches the readers' attention with the use of direct mode of address. I will use a bright loud colour scheme, probably red and blue and yellow, to create an obvious brand identity that audiences can recognize. The media language and the stories I will use in my magazine cover will be appealing to 16–25-year-old using short snappy “clickbait” words to draw their attention. The personal stories that I will use will be from people who have a similar age demographic, represent different ethnicities, genders and sexualities so that it is inclusive to everyone in the target audience. The income from my magazine and most will be through psychical copy sales, online subscription and advertising in the magazine and the website. To attract my target audience the price will be lowered to 99p, but we will have to include more advertising to make up for the lost revenue from pricing. I will promote a QR code on my contents page, as well as having written to visit, www.catchupmagazine.com in which you can subscribe to our VIP content. All the adverts that I will have will feature items that attract this audience such as prizes to win for a holiday or websites such as Pandora (jewellery products) or other popular clothing brands for that age range.
Product Two - Website
My website needs to attract and keep the attention of my target audience as they have come there from the magazine cover or contents page. I will promote the stories on my recent magazine cover so that if people want to know more about the articles is a quick and easy to find and access. I will use the bright masthead in the corner to display brand identity from my magazine. I am hoping to do a link for a social media platform that a lot of people aged 16-25 use such as Instagram or Twitter to promote other platforms of the brand and so I could market other products that the website could go on to create. I am planning on having a meet the team section at the bottom so that audiences feel closer with the happy team and want to subscribe. There will also be a lot of advertising to keep up revenue as well as link to subscribe to the VIP page. I will advertise to get cash for your stories like a lot of the other real-life magazines on the website so that people stay more interested to know they could be featured. The colour scheme will be familiar to the magazine cover so that audience can identify the brand.
Task 2- How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
I intend to link my media platforms through brand identity including my mast head “catch up” which I plan to feature on the left top side of all the media pages (on the front of the magazine and the website headline). This will make audiences aware that it is made by the same brand. I will stick to the same colour scheme from the contents page to the magazine cover to the website to have a recognizable theme throughout. I am planning to have similar adverts across the contents page and the website so that there is an obvious link. I will also try to establish brand identity by featuring the same stories on the contents page as in my website where I elaborate on those stories.
